Molcajetes refers to the dish that the food is served in — a round bowl set on three legs, traditionally made from volcanic stone. Molcajetes as a cooking tool can date back to at least the Aztecs, as the name is thought to come from the Nahuatl words for “seasoning” and “bowl.” It is common for molcajetes to be used for grinding spices and/or making and serving salsas because the stone brings out the flavors. When used as a serving dish, the molcajete has the ability to retain heat and can be filled with a variety of meats and vegetables.
Ni Tuyo offers five molcajetes, including a vegetarian option, meant to be shared. Along with molcajetes, Ni Tuyo features a variety of tacos and a large selection of mezcal and agaves.
