A sinkhole opened in the area of West Oxford Avenue and South Natches Court in Sheridan near the Englewood border, about which Sheridan police received a call at about 7 p.m. July 24.
Oxford Avenue was closed eastbound, and one lane was open westbound as of around 11 a.m. July 25. A car was in the sinkhole, and the driver was not injured, Sheridan police said on Twitter.
“We didn’t get any reports of serious flooding,” said Mark Campbell, chief of Sheridan Police Department. In Sheridan, no rescues were necessary, and no injuries or major home damage occurred due to flooding, Campbell said.
Some tree fires broke out due to wind blowing trees into electrical wires, but fires did not touch homes, Campbell said.
A sinkhole opened up just west of the current sinkhole in 2015 that a police car ended up in, Campbell said.
In nearby Englewood, a woman died July 25 after being pulled out of a flooded basement unit the night before. Six households, including 17 people, were being assisted by the Red Cross Colorado-Wyoming region as of about noon July 25 due to flooding.
